Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up. - Pablo Picasso
Frequently invited to speak about creativity and how it relates to the written word, Laurie Caple has also been instrumental in initiating many gallery shows honoring children’s art.
Her presentations are fast-paced, colorful and adapted to focus on groups of any age level and ability. Woven through each is the unmistakable message that every child is talented, original and has something important to say through creative expression. Students are whisked along on the journey a manuscript takes from the moment it hums into her studio fresh off the fax machine. Laurie brings along some of her secret tools, like an elephant ear sponge, a squirrel-tail shaped brush, goopy masking fluid and even a toothbrush! She likes to draw simple sketches to show why it’s important for artists to be great detectives too. Her presentations begin and end with slides of artwork capturing the fresh perspective and tenderness only a child can create… a reminder that talent and potential are in everyone around us and within each one of us too.
Laurie will be delighted to reduce her speaking fee by 20% for schools who follow up her visit by holding their own Children’s Art Exhibit or other venue publicly celebrating children’s writing projects. For further information on availability and compensation, contact her at: lcaple@charter.net
